SANTIAGO, Chile – Sonnedix, the global solar independent power producer (IPP) has achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its 10.5MW Sonnedix Taranto solar PV plant in Chile.

The solar IPP started the construction of this PV plant in May 2021, partnering with EPC contractor CAF Turnkey & Engineering. The ground-mounted solar PV plant is located in the Valparaíso Region of Chile, at just 80km from the capital Santiago de Chile, and it’s expected to generate 21,648MWh of clean electricity during its first year of operation, which is equivalent to avoiding the emission of almost 9,000 tons of CO2 per year.

Axel Thiemann, CEO of Sonnedix, said: “We continue playing an active role in the Energy Transition in Chile, building, and operating solar PV plants for the long term, as well as actively seeking further opportunities to grow our portfolio in the country through the acquisition of operational and development solar PV projects. “

Sonnedix has 15 operating solar PV plants in Chile, with a total operational capacity of more than 244MW, 160MW under construction, and over 1GW of development pipeline.
